If you are interested in raising money for charity, there are many ways that you can use your talents and interests to help those in need.
Participate in a Walk-a-thon
If you are athletic and love to exercise, participating in a walk-a-thon is a perfect way to raise money for a variety of good causes. Many autism, diabetes, breast cancer and other health organizations have yearly walk-a-thons in big cities. Organize a team and ask family and friends to donate money that will be given to the organization once you complete the walk. If you know someone who wants to help out, but physically can not participate in a long walk, organizations also need volunteers to pass out t-shirts and run refreshment tables.
Collect Goods for a Food Pantry
Both churches and non-profit organizations have food collections to help families who do not have enough to eat. You can donate directly to the organization personally or you can take it to the next level by organizing a food drive at your school or work place. Set up a table during lunch time and have friends and co-workers bring in canned goods. Once all the goods are collected, you can see if the organization needs volunteers to help box and pack the goods.
Help Out a Women’s Shelter
Women’s shelters help out single moms and other struggling women who need help buying supplies and finding work. Women’s shelters can always use gently used suits and other business clothing to help females who are trying to get back into the workforce. Children’s clothing and other hygiene items such as shampoo, toothbrushes and deodorant are also often needed. Some shelters even help place women in job training or find them low cost housing. You can volunteer your time to teach resume building and interviewing techniques to under privileged women.
