We hear about donating money to charities, donating toys at Christmastime, donating food to food pantries, etc. However, just as important as the items we donate is the time and talents that we donate. Many charities and organizations cannot function properly without the help of people who are willing to give of themselves.
Most of the organizations that provide charitable activities are non-profit organizations and are run solely through volunteers. You may feel that you do not have enough to give. If you are a little down on your luck too but you want to be able to give to others who are worse off than you, it may be time for you to consider giving the gift of time. You may have talents and abilities that could benefit these organizations as well. It takes many people with many different abilities to make the successful charitable organizations run smoothly and accomplish what they are there to accomplish.
If you look around you will find many, many organizations who are looking for a donation of your time and abilities. Soup kitchens are having more and more people come to them every day for a warm meal. This means they need more and more helpers to keep things running smoothly. Habitat for Humanity helps build or renovate homes for those in need. Volunteers work on these homes together to reduce costs. If you have the time they need you! It is not necessary to even have carpentry abilities, as there are generally jobs that anyone can do. Animal shelters need people to walk dogs, cleaning cages or food dishes, feeding the animals, or just plain giving them the attention and care that they need.
You do not need any special talents or skills to donate your time. There is sure to be a charitable organization out there that needs you. Take a little bit of time to look around your community and find someone you can help. It may surprise you that you will come away even more blessed by your act of kindness than those who you helped.
