Charities make giver feel good about the people their money will be helping. There a lot of charities out there working for different causes and to be fair we need more such charities. But not all of these charities give to the poor or the needs. A few of these charities are created by evil fraudsters which scam people off their hard earned money to keep it for themselves. This is not just an isolated incident but a widespread problem that has caused many people to stop trusting and from giving to truthful charities.
It is hard to believe that there are such charities, but since you and I can’t do anything now, all we can be is to see that we do not fall to their trap. You need to run a basic scan of the charity which you are planning to give money to. Ask about them to other similar charities which might know a lot about fake charities and will report to the proper authorities about these face charities. The internet should have detailed information about these people. The consumer protection agency is the government agency that you can contact in case you feel that this is a face charity and make them do a back ground check of the charity. It is an online charity then you can ask for a physical address and a phone number before wildly giving them the money. You can use this phone number and address to do you own background check. If the charity has a name that is quite similar to another well known charity, then you should pick this out as a scam. An ideal charity will not keep its name similar to another charity. Most of the well known charities are added a “The” before their name and used.
